'12 Specialized S-Works Tarmac SL4 SRAM Red

What do large sprinters and featherweight climbers have in common? They regularly win on Specialized's S-Works Tarmac SL4. This pro-peloton proven rocket uses Specialized's FACT 11r-carbon in the frame and fork for phenomenal stiffness and remarkably low weight. In front, they've integrated the down-, top-, and head-tube junctions into a "King Cobra"-shaped tapered head tube that's supremely stiff for precise, sure handling. A one-piece BB/chainstay also trims weight while improving the all-important drivetrain stiffness, proving that it's all in the details. Plus, to bring you to the front of the pack, it's spec'd with a 20-speed SRAM Red group for precise, lightning-quick shifts as well as a set of light Roval wheels. And, the Tarmac is adorned with Specialized's world-class S-Works carbon components, too.

  • This frame utilizes Specialized’s advanced FACT IS (Integrated Structure) construction method. By separating the frame into four main parts — the front triangle, seat tube/bottom bracket, chainstays and seatstays — Specialized is able to optimize each carbon piece for its specific purpose and create a structure that’s incredibly light, impeccably stiff and impressively strong.
  • This frame’s head tube is 1 3/8 inches in diameter at the bottom and 1 1/8 inches at the top. This maximizes front-end stiffness for awesome steering precision and control, while allowing the use of standard 1 1/8-inch stems and not adding much weight.
