After launching its women’s group (Rock N’ Road Divas) in March of last year, Rock N’ Road Cyclery just hosted its fourth successful event on Thursday, March 20th at the Mission Viejo location. The night began with a challenge. Women in the group were given the rules to the Diva Jersey Design Contest. Women are to submit their jersey designs using their own artwork and the winner will see her name printed on all future jerseys made. Entries are due on April 4 to the Rock N’ Road, Mission Viejo location. Please contact Nicky at Nicky@rocknroadcyclery.net or at the Irvine location with any questions. The staff emphasized being creative and having fun!
The featured speaker of the night, Bernice Pierson, began her speech by introducing herself as an adventure racer, and an adventure racer she is! Bernice’s slideshow presentation mixed inspirational quotes with real life footage of the travels and races she has competed in all over the world. Having participated in numerous races, events and even television programs, Bernice inspired the audience with her main message to just “make the decision” and go for it- whatever “it” may be for each individual.
Next up was a humorous and fun fashion show displaying the latest fashions from Specialized, Sheila Moon, Fox and Twin Six for the 2008 Spring Season. The audience roared as the two male escorts livened up the show.
Following the fashion, the women got down to business with a flat fixing contest. Three teams of two competed to change a flat tire the fastest. The parameters of the competition were that one woman had to be an expert flat fixer while the other had never fixed a flat in her life. The twist of the event was that the expert had to instruct the rookie how to fix the flat without touching the tire or wheel herself. The excitement mounted as the winners prevailed just seconds before the other teams.
Rounding out the night were great raffle prizes, specifically a brand new Specialized Dolce road bike for the grand prize winner, Anna Flowers of Rancho Santa Margarita!
Rock N’ Road enjoys its role of bringing the women’s cycling community together for fitness, education and fun. Look for this group to continue to grow and do great things for female cyclists.
